Abhijit Ganguly Threatens Hunger Strike in Banvasi Area

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 23, 2024, Calcutta — Tensions rose in the Banvasi area as BJP MP and former judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay confronted Trinamool leader Devanshu Bhattacharya, who pointedly remarked that Gangopadhyay had been absent from the region. In response to ongoing local issues, Gangopadhyay stated, “If things don’t improve, I will pitch a tent here and sit on hunger strike.”

His warning elicited mixed reactions, with one resident retorting, “Start the work without fasting.” This response visibly unsettled Gangopadhyay, who insisted, “I can’t be pulled around like this. I will file a case if necessary.”

Concerns about illegal construction in the area were also raised, with locals suggesting that individuals from various parties were involved. In light of this criticism, Gangopadhyay quickly left the area.

Earlier, he visited flood-affected Deriachak village in the Kolaghat block, where he met with distressed families and listened to their concerns. Despite his threats of a hunger strike to spur action, the local community was largely dismissive, asserting that work should be accomplished without resorting to such measures.

This visit followed a trip by Trinamool leader Devanshu Bhattacharya to Kolaghat, where he assessed the flood situation alongside Kunal Ghosh.
