Partha Chatterjee Seeks Bail from Supreme Court Amid Ongoing CBI Investigation

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, October 1, 2024, Kolkata: In a pivotal turn of events, Partha Chatterjee has formally approached the Supreme Court with a plea for bail, igniting discussions around his prolonged incarceration. His lawyer has pointed out that, unlike other defendants such as Anubrata Mondal, who have successfully secured their release, Chatterjee remains behind bars, highlighting a perceived inconsistency in the judicial process.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues to press charges against Chatterjee, intensifying the scrutiny surrounding his case. Despite the serious allegations, his legal team contends that over two years of detention have yielded no substantial evidence to support the claims made against him. The nature of the charges could lead to a maximum sentence of seven years, raising further questions about the implications of his extended imprisonment without definitive proof.

In response to this pressing situation, the Supreme Court has taken significant action by issuing notices to all parties involved in the case. Chatterjee’s bail application, submitted on September 13, has garnered the Court’s attention, and Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan have underscored the importance of expedited proceedings in the lower courts. They have mandated that the lower court conduct regular hearings, with a scheduled Supreme Court review in just ten days.

Chatterjee’s ongoing detention, despite a lack of conclusive evidence, has sparked widespread concern regarding the fairness and integrity of the judicial system. Advocates and legal experts alike are calling for an immediate reevaluation of his situation, emphasizing the need for justice to be served without unnecessary delay. The outcome of this plea could set a significant precedent in the realm of bail applications and the treatment of defendants awaiting trial in similar circumstances.

Junior Doctors’ Lawyer Voices Concern in Supreme Court: Influential Accused Still in Hospital

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 30, 2014, Kolkata:  In a significant development, junior doctors have raised their concerns in the Supreme Court regarding the delay in action against seven influential individuals accused in a case of financial corruption. Their lawyer, Indira Jaisingh, voiced the doctors’ frustrations, pointing out that despite the seriousness of the allegations, these individuals remain in the hospital, sparking worries among the junior medical staff.

During Monday’s hearing, Jaisingh highlighted the gravity of the situation, remarking, “This is not just a case of financial corruption; it involves a broader context of systemic abuse. Four members of the medical council, present at the scene of a rape and murder, are still hospitalized.” She further pressed the court to suspend the seven accused individuals, arguing that the delay in action jeopardizes the safety and peace of mind of the junior doctors.

Jaisingh questioned how the junior doctors could confidently return to work if the authorities fail to act swiftly. In response, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court instructed that the state should take immediate action as soon as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) releases the names of those under investigation.

The state’s lawyer reassured the court, stating, “No matter how influential these individuals may be, the state will take prompt action once the CBI discloses their identities. There will be no hesitation in enforcing the law against them.”

The case has garnered widespread attention, as the junior doctors continue to demand justice and protection, while the public awaits further developments in the high-profile corruption investigation.

Junior Doctors at National Medical College Hospital Attacked by Intoxicated Patient and Family

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, 30 September 2024, Kolkata: In a disturbing incident at National Medical College Hospital, junior doctors were assaulted by an intoxicated patient and his family. Following a similar incident at Sagar Dutta Hospital, this attack included verbal abuse and death threats, causing widespread concern at one of Kolkata’s key medical facilities.

The altercation occurred when a patient, accompanied by friends, arrived at the hospital’s emergency department in an inebriated state, with severe hand injuries. After the doctors recommended an operation, the patient demanded immediate treatment, which the doctors explained was not feasible without proper preparation. This refusal triggered chaos in the hospital, with the patient and his relatives becoming aggressive and issuing threats against the doctors.

Five junior doctors from the surgery emergency unit were on duty during the incident. They reported that the patient and his family threatened to harm them. Following the attack, a formal complaint was lodged at the Beniyapukur police station. The police have since launched an investigation, arresting four individuals in connection with the assault and requesting CCTV footage from the hospital for further review.

This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of medical professionals at the hospital. Many doctors have expressed feelings of extreme insecurity, questioning the adequacy of safety measures in place to protect them while they perform their duties.

In response to the complaint, police officials were stationed at the hospital for an extended period. However, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about the protection of healthcare workers in high-stress environments like emergency departments.

CBI Probes Mysterious Circumstances Surrounding Doctor’s Death Amid Evidence Tampering Allegations

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 29, 2024, New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is intensifying its efforts to unravel the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital, particularly focusing on the autopsy report’s reference to the term “antimortem.” The agency is eager to clarify several critical questions regarding the injuries found on the victim’s body.

The CBI has meticulously compared witness statements with the injury descriptions detailed in the post-mortem report. As part of their investigation, they have interrogated the doctors responsible for conducting the autopsy, as well as the morgue staff, in an effort to solve this complex case. Key questions include whether the injuries were inflicted before or after death and whether the victim, Tilottama, was sexually assaulted prior to or following her murder. The post-mortem report indicates multiple injuries that were allegedly sustained before death, although investigators are casting doubt on the report’s accuracy.

According to CBI sources, their multiple visits to RG Kar Hospital and scrutiny of the post-mortem report have led them to believe that while Sanjay Roy may have brutally tortured the victim, the actual murder could have been committed by someone else. This revelation, along with the possibility that sexual assault occurred after death, adds a new layer of complexity to the investigation.

The CBI has summoned Dr. Apurba Biswas, the post-mortem doctor, along with other staff members for further questioning at the CGO complex. Additionally, two seized mobile phones have been sent for forensic analysis. Notably, one of these phones belonged to an influential doctor with ties to former RG Kar chief Sandeep Ghosh. Investigators discovered that many crucial images, call recordings, and messages had been deleted from both devices, raising concerns that vital evidence related to the conspiracy may have been lost.

Details regarding the alleged conspiracy and evidence tampering by Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, who has been arrested, have emerged in court. If the CBI successfully proves the charges against him, Ghosh could face the death penalty for his involvement in evidence tampering and conspiracy. In a recent directive, a judge noted, “The scale of the charges is serious. If proved, this could lead to capital punishment, which is reserved for the rarest of cases. Therefore, it would be unjust to grant bail on these charges.”

As the investigation unfolds, the CBI is working diligently to piece together the facts surrounding this troubling case, seeking justice for the victim while holding accountable those who may have attempted to obstruct the truth.

The situation at RG Kar has become increasingly tense as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the case.

The CBI officials were seen entering the hospital’s ‘Platinum Jubilee’ building, where they are expected to gather crucial information related to the investigation. The CBI has summoned Dr. Biswas once again to the CGO complex for questioning, underscoring the importance of his testimony in the ongoing inquiry. He arrived at the CBI office at noon, where investigators are meticulously recording his statement.

In a related development, Chinmoy Biswas, a sub-inspector from the Tala police station, also appeared at the CGO complex following a summons from the CBI. This comes in the wake of the arrest of the station’s officer-in-charge, Abhijit Mondal, by the CBI, raising questions about the handling of the case by local law enforcement. Sub-inspector Biswas was reportedly present at the crime scene shortly after the incident was reported on the morning of August 9, working alongside the investigating officer from the police station.

Additionally, three doctors close to the victim, identified as Sandeep Ghosh, have also been called back to the CBI office for further questioning. These doctors—Virupaksh Biswas, Abhik Dey, and Saurabh Pal—are under scrutiny due to allegations of mishandling evidence, raising concerns about their role in the investigation.

As the CBI continues to probe deeper into the case, tensions remain high at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The unfolding developments highlight the challenges faced by investigators in unraveling the complexities of this tragic incident. Community members and stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation, awaiting answers and accountability as the investigation progresses.

Traffic ASI Arrested in Rape Case Following Two-Month Investigation

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews | September 21, 2024 | Siliguri: In a significant development, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amar Bir of the Bagdogra Traffic Guard was arrested on charges of rape, nearly two months after a woman lodged a formal complaint with the Matigara Police Station. The victim alleged that ASI Bir had been sexually assaulting her over an extended period, luring her with false promises of marriage and, in some instances, using his position to intimidate her.

According to sources, the accused ASI threatened the woman with police action if she exposed the abuse. Despite this, the victim courageously filed a written complaint with Matigara Police Station two months ago, detailing her traumatic experiences. After an extended investigation, the police arrested ASI Bir yesterday, marking a turning point in the case.

The accused was presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court earlier today. Authorities from Matigara Police Station have requested custody of the ASI to proceed with a thorough investigation into the allegations. The remand period is expected to be crucial for gathering additional evidence and verifying the full extent of the crimes committed.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through the local community, as ASI Amar Bir had been a traffic officer in the Bagdogra Traffic Guard for several years. Local residents and advocacy groups are closely following the case, hoping for swift justice and accountability. Fearing his arrest, he first applied for anticipatory bail in the sessions court, which rejected his appeal, and then pursued the appeal in the high court, which also rejected it.

This incident has once again highlighted the pressing issue of power dynamics and abuse within law enforcement, raising concerns about the need for greater transparency and stronger checks on those in positions of authority. As the investigation unfolds, all eyes are on the judicial process to ensure that the victim receives the justice she deserves.

CBI May Take Sandeep Ghosh Abroad for Investigation Purposes

Baby Chakraborty | KalimNews | September 21, 2024 | Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the RG Kar case, focusing on Sandeep Ghosh, a key figure under arrest. Although Ghosh has already undergone a polygraph (lie detector) test, officials remain skeptical, citing several unresolved doubts regarding his involvement. In light of these concerns, the CBI is planning to take Ghosh abroad as part of their ongoing investigation.
Recent developments have seen the CBI move forward with a petition to conduct a narco-analysis test on Ghosh. Sources indicate that this application was submitted to the court earlier today. After reviewing the request, the court granted its approval, clearing the way for further investigation. The narco test is scheduled for September 23, 2024, and will be a pivotal moment in the case.
While initial reports suggested that Ghosh might be transferred to Gujarat for the narco test, the CBI is now exploring the possibility of taking him to a foreign country as part of their broader investigative efforts. This move, experts suggest, could be aimed at utilizing advanced forensic techniques or gathering additional international intelligence related to the case.
The outcome of the narco test, and any subsequent international investigation, is anticipated to provide critical insights into the RG Kar case. The entire nation will be closely watching whether these efforts reveal the truth behind the allegations against Ghosh.

CBI Pursues New Leads in RG Kar Scandal Amid Junior Doctors’ Return to Work

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 20, 2024, Kolkata : The RG Kar scandal continues to cast a shadow over Kolkata, as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeks to unravel the complexities surrounding the case. Investigators are now requesting a polygraph test for Abhijit Mondal, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala police station, and a narco test for Sandeep Ghosh, the former director of RG Kar. They have submitted a formal application to the court, but legal approval is still pending.

Recent interrogations of Ghosh have revealed several discrepancies, prompting the CBI to consider taking him to Gujarat for a narcotics test. Ghosh has already undergone a polygraph examination but has reportedly declined to participate in the drug test, leading the CBI to escalate the matter to the court.

As part of its investigation, the CBI has previously conducted polygraph tests on nine individuals connected to the case, including Ghosh. Now, they aim to extend this scrutiny to Mondal, having filed a new application following their court appearance. The investigators are currently awaiting confirmation on whether they have the legal authority to proceed.

The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court of Sealdah has already granted permission for the polygraph tests of the nine other individuals involved, including the main accused, Sanjay Roy, who has also undergone testing.

As the investigation unfolds, the atmosphere remains tense, with the CBI determined to clear the fog surrounding the RG Kar scandal. Meanwhile, as junior doctors announce their return to work starting next Saturday, the healthcare community is also watching closely for developments in both the medical and legal arenas.

CBI Summons Four Calcutta Police Officers, Including Two Inspectors

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 16, 2024, Kolkata: The CBI has summoned four officers from the Calcutta Police, including two inspectors, in connection with the investigation of a high-profile case at RG Kar Hospital.
This move follows initial allegations of negligence and mishandling of the investigation by local police.

The CBI’s action suggests that there may be a larger conspiracy involved.

The officers, including two sub-inspectors, are believed to be linked to the case, which has raised speculation that the investigation could reveal new dimensions to the situation.
The case centers on the alleged rape and murder of a young student-doctor at RG Kar Hospital, which occurred on August 9. Allegations have surfaced that evidence was tampered with following the incident.
The post-mortem report and the hasty cremation of the victim’s body have intensified scrutiny.

The CBI’s intervention underscores growing concerns about the handling of the case and the possibility of uncovering a broader conspiracy.

CBI Uncovers Mistakes in Kolkata Police’s Case File: Investigation Continues

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 15, 2024, Kolkata: As investigations into the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case continue, new developments are emerging. The brutal rape and murder of a female doctor at the RG Kar Medical College on August 9 has once again raised questions about the safety of women.

Initially, Kolkata Police had arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Rai, in connection with this horrific incident. However, the case took a significant turn last Saturday night when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two more individuals: Tala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abhijit Mondal and former Principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh. This brings the total number of arrests in this case to three.

The CBI has recently discovered multiple errors in the Kolkata Police’s case file, which they believe might unravel further mysteries. The central investigative agency is now planning to interrogate a high-ranking police officer via video conferencing as part of their ongoing probe.

During their investigation, CBI officials identified a series of discrepancies in the case diary maintained by the Kolkata Police. According to reports, these mistakes have led the CBI to question the integrity of the initial investigation. The CBI suspects that issues began as early as the start of the investigation and that these errors were not merely accidental but potentially indicative of deeper problems.

From August 9 to August 13, the CBI has been scrutinizing the call details of various police officials involved in the case. This thorough examination has brought several new findings to light, adding complexity to the investigation.

As the CBI continues to delve deeper into the case, the public and media remain on edge, hoping for answers and justice for the victim.
