CBI Uncovers Mistakes in Kolkata Police’s Case File: Investigation Continues

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 15, 2024, Kolkata: As investigations into the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case continue, new developments are emerging. The brutal rape and murder of a female doctor at the RG Kar Medical College on August 9 has once again raised questions about the safety of women.

Initially, Kolkata Police had arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Rai, in connection with this horrific incident. However, the case took a significant turn last Saturday night when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two more individuals: Tala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abhijit Mondal and former Principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh. This brings the total number of arrests in this case to three.

The CBI has recently discovered multiple errors in the Kolkata Police’s case file, which they believe might unravel further mysteries. The central investigative agency is now planning to interrogate a high-ranking police officer via video conferencing as part of their ongoing probe.

During their investigation, CBI officials identified a series of discrepancies in the case diary maintained by the Kolkata Police. According to reports, these mistakes have led the CBI to question the integrity of the initial investigation. The CBI suspects that issues began as early as the start of the investigation and that these errors were not merely accidental but potentially indicative of deeper problems.

From August 9 to August 13, the CBI has been scrutinizing the call details of various police officials involved in the case. This thorough examination has brought several new findings to light, adding complexity to the investigation.

As the CBI continues to delve deeper into the case, the public and media remain on edge, hoping for answers and justice for the victim.

Authorities recovered a plastic jar containing urine from the shop during a search, further confirming the allegations.

The investigation began after customers reported feeling suspicious following their visit to the fruit juice stall. One customer, identified as Rai, filed a complaint with the local police, accusing the shop owner of mixing urine with the juice. Upon receiving the complaint, police conducted a search of the establishment, discovering a plastic jar filled with urine.

ACP Ankur Bhaskar confirmed the arrest, stating, “The shop owner, Amir, and his minor son have been taken into custody, and action will be taken according to the law.” During questioning, the owner could not provide a clear explanation for why the urine was stored in the shop.

Further investigations are underway.

Doctors Attempt to Gang-Rape Nurse in Private Hospital in Bihar’s Gangapur

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 13, 2024 – The outcry over Tilottama’s rape and murder at RG Kar Hospital has yet to subside, and now another horrific incident has come to light, this time in Gangapur, Bihar. A nurse was allegedly the victim of an attempted gang-rape by doctors at a private hospital, sparking outrage in the area.

According to sources, one of the alleged perpetrators is a doctor at the hospital and also one of its administrators. The accused doctor reportedly attacked the nurse, but she managed to escape after a brave act of self-defense. She hit the doctor’s private parts with a blade, causing him to bleed profusely, and fled the scene.

The incident took place on Wednesday night at RBS Healthcare Center in Gangapur. The nurse had just finished her shift and was preparing to go home when Dr. Sanjay Kumar, an administrator of the hospital, along with two of his colleagues, allegedly assaulted her. All three were reportedly intoxicated at the time and attempted to gang-rape the nurse. In a bid to save herself, the nurse slashed one of the doctors with a blade and ran away. She hid in a field near the hospital and called the police from there.

Police arrived promptly and rescued the nurse. Following a search, they arrested Dr. Sanjay Kumar and his two accomplices. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Pandey confirmed the arrests, stating, “Three people have been arrested, including a doctor. The quick thinking and courage of the nurse are commendable.”

The police investigation revealed that the hospital doors were locked from the inside, and all CCTV cameras were turned off before the crime was attempted. The police recovered half a bottle of liquor, bloodstained clothes, and the blade the nurse used to defend herself. Several mobile phones were also seized as part of the investigation.

This shocking incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the safety of healthcare workers, particularly women, in hospitals and other workplaces.

Supreme Court Orders CISF : Prompts CBI Action After RG Kar Hospital Case Hearing

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 9, 2024, Delhi/Kolkata: The Supreme Court of India, in a significant directive on Monday, ordered the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of doctors across the country. The Chief Justice, without delving into the specifics of funds allocated to state hospitals, questioned the actual steps that have been implemented within these healthcare facilities. The court has mandated that the state government provide a comprehensive report on the progress made in improving hospital security and infrastructure at the next hearing.

The Supreme Court also instructed that district collectors should be appointed to oversee medical colleges and ensure that adequate steps are taken to address safety and infrastructure concerns. This directive places considerable pressure on the state government to take effective measures to safeguard doctors and health workers while enhancing the overall medical infrastructure. The Supreme Court’s orders have clearly pushed the state to demonstrate tangible efforts in ensuring the safety of healthcare professionals and improving conditions in hospitals.

CBI Back in Action at RG Kar Hospital
Following the Supreme Court’s hearing on the RG Kar Hospital case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has swung into action. The CBI’s Special Crime Branch is actively investigating the alleged rape and murder of a young doctor at the hospital. The agency had earlier submitted its status report to the Supreme Court on Monday, outlining the progress of the investigation. The case is set to be heard again next week.

On the same day, a five-member CBI team, accompanied by central forces, reached RG Kar Hospital around noon. The officers were seen investigating in the emergency building of the hospital, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses to uncover the truth behind the heinous crime. As of the time of writing this report, the CBI’s investigation at the hospital was ongoing, reflecting their intensified efforts following the Supreme Court’s directives.

Mounting Pressure and Calls for Justice
Meanwhile, the call for justice in the RG Kar case is growing louder, with protests and movements intensifying across West Bengal. The tragic death of the young doctor has sparked widespread outrage, with demands for justice coming from both the public and various civil society groups. The Supreme Court, recognizing the urgency of the situation, also ordered junior doctors to return to work by Tuesday afternoon, ensuring that hospital services remain uninterrupted amid the ongoing investigations.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee echoed the Supreme Court’s appeal, urging junior doctors to resume their duties following the apex court’s directive. “We must not let this tragedy paralyze our healthcare system. I request all doctors to return to work and continue their service to the people,” said the Chief Minister.

The Road Ahead
The Supreme Court’s stern directives and the CBI’s immediate response mark a critical turning point in the RG Kar Hospital case. With the next hearing scheduled soon, the state government faces the challenge of proving its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of doctors and health workers. The central investigative agency, on the other hand, is expected to accelerate its probe to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.

As the investigation progresses, the people of West Bengal, along with the medical community, are closely watching the developments, hoping for swift justice and improved safety standards in hospitals across the state. The RG Kar case has highlighted the urgent need for systemic reforms, and the coming days will be crucial in determining the future course of action by both the state government and the central agencies involved.

CBI Raises Multiple Questions in RG Kar Medical College Case Investigation

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 9, 2024, Kolkata:

A series of serious allegations have surfaced in the ongoing investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the RG Kar Medical College Hospital incident. The central investigating agency has obtained crucial evidence, including CCTV footage and forensic reports, raising new questions and concerns about the handling of the case.

The Chief Justice’s special bench has instructed the CBI to submit an updated status report on the investigation by Tuesday, September 17. During today’s hearing, the CBI raised significant issues about the post-mortem process conducted in the case. It was revealed that the post-mortem was performed after a specific period to facilitate a swift cremation, a decision that has come under scrutiny.

The CBI pointed out several inconsistencies and mysteries in the post-mortem procedure. Although it was conducted in the presence of a magistrate, the CBI has questioned the timing and manner of the autopsy. Adding to the complexity, the CBI acknowledged the presence of injury marks on the body of Tilottama, the deceased, which had not been sufficiently addressed in the initial reports.

The CBI’s legal representative mentioned the existence of a challan accompanying the autopsy report. However, when the Chief Justice inquired about this document, the state’s legal counsel could not provide the necessary details. This led the Chief Justice to question how the autopsy could have been carried out without all the required documentation.

Further complicating matters, the CBI highlighted discrepancies related to the CCTV footage from the hospital. When questioned about the footage, the state lawyer informed the court that it had been provided in four parts. However, senior counsel Kapil Sibal, representing the state, mentioned a “technical glitch” but failed to elaborate on what the specific error was. The CBI remained firm in its assertion that the full and complete CCTV footage had not been handed over, which casts doubt on the transparency and thoroughness of the evidence provided by the state.

Since the CBI took over the investigation five days after the incident, several key elements of the case have reportedly changed. The central agency is now faced with piecing together the altered evidence and determining the actual sequence of events that led to the tragic outcome at RG Kar Medical College Hospital.

The ongoing investigation by the CBI has certainly raised more questions than answers, and the revelations have intensified the scrutiny on the handling of the case by the state authorities. The legal battle is expected to continue, with the next status report likely shedding more light on the contentious issues that have surfaced in this high-profile case.

Maynaguri Police Solve Theft Case Within 24 Hours

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 8, 2024, Maynaguri : A swift and successful police operation has led to the resolution of a theft case in Maynaguri, Jalpaiguri district. District Superintendent of Police Umesh Khandwale briefed the media on Sunday about the recent incident that unfolded in the area.

On Saturday, Paritosh Das, a resident of Maynaguri, discovered that gold jewelry stored in his cupboard was missing. Shocked by the theft, Das promptly filed a complaint with the Maynaguri police station. Upon receiving the complaint, the police initiated an immediate investigation into the matter.

The investigation focused initially on the household staff, and the maid, Deepali Das, was detained for questioning. During the interrogation, Deepali Das confessed to having stolen the jewelry in collusion with her husband, Krishna Das. Acting on this revelation, the police team conducted a search of the Das household.

Within 24 hours of the complaint being lodged, the Maynaguri police successfully recovered the stolen gold ornaments from the Das residence. The prompt action by the police led to the arrest of Deepali Das and Krishna Das, who have been charged with theft under relevant sections of the law.

The district court has initiated proceedings against the accused, and they are now facing legal consequences for their actions. This case highlights the efficiency and effectiveness of the local police in addressing and resolving criminal activities promptly.

Haripal Incident Sparks Protests Amidst Statewide Unrest

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 8, 2024, Hooghly : The ongoing protests against the rape and murder of a student from RG Kar College have cast a shadow over Haripal, where a new and troubling incident has emerged. Amid the statewide unrest, a student in Haripal has alleged a rape, but initial investigations have raised doubts about the veracity of these claims.

On Friday night around 10 PM, a minor was found unconscious with torn clothes near Mahadev Cold Storage, close to the Haripal police station. Local women who discovered the student provided assistance and alerted the authorities. The police arrived promptly, and the minor was taken to Haripal Rural Hospital for treatment.

Upon regaining consciousness, the student reported being abducted by four individuals in a white car while returning from tuition at Singur. The student claimed the assailants threatened her with harm to her mother if she reported the incident. She also described being dropped off at Haripal station and coerced into walking through the local market.

However, the police have noted several inconsistencies in the student’s statement and found no evidence of rape in the physical examination. This has led to significant public skepticism and unrest.

In response to the incident, members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Student Federation of India (SFI) gathered in front of the Haripal police station, demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.

The situation remains tense as the community grapples with the impact of recent events and seeks clarity on the latest allegations.

ED Traces Additional Properties of Sandeep Ghosh in Kolkata

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 7, 2024, Kolkata:
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has traced additional properties belonging to Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, uncovering a house named ‘Ghosh Villa’ in Beleghata, along with several flats in New Town, Kolkata.

The ED has discovered two more flats near Beleghata ID Hospital, close to the four-storey house where Sandeep Ghosh resided in Beleghata. These flats reportedly include a garage with a luxury car. The caretakers of these two flats confirmed they belong to Sandeep Ghosh, although there was little activity in these properties, and they have remained closed for an extended period.

Moreover, a new luxury three-storey house named ‘Ghosh Villa’ has been uncovered in the Noapara Mallik Bagan Hatiara area of Kolkata’s New Town. This house is where Sandeep Ghosh’s parents lived. The caretaker of the Beleghata flat told reporters that Sandeep Ghosh bought the car a few months ago and would occasionally use it, parking it in the garage.

Curiously, while the nameplates of luxury flats in Canning bear clear identification, the nameplates for the two flats in Beleghata do not display any names. This has led to speculation that Sandeep Ghosh may have deliberately omitted his name to conceal his ownership.

On Friday, ED officials searched the residences of several of Ghosh’s relatives, including his house in Beleghata. Following an extensive search, the ED arrested a person named Prasun Chattopadhyay. The ED is investigating where the money from the financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College went and whether this extensive property was purchased in line with Sandeep Ghosh’s legitimate income.

In another development, the State Medical Council has issued a notice to Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, condemning his actions as the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. As a result, Ghosh’s troubles have deepened. Last Friday, the Medical Council informed him that if a satisfactory response is not provided within three days, his medical registration will be canceled. However, it should be noted that the health department had already suspended Sandeep Ghosh earlier.

ED Arrests Prasun Chatterjee, Close Associate of RG Kar Hospital’s Former Principal Sandeep Ghosh, from Subhashgram

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, September 6, 2024: In a significant development in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital corruption case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Prasun Chatterjee, a close associate and self-proclaimed Personal Assistant (PA) of the disgraced former principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. The arrest took place in Subhashgram, located in South 24 Parganas district, following a day-long search of multiple properties linked to the corruption scandal.

Early on Friday morning, ED officials, accompanied by central armed forces, descended on Subhashgram and began searching the residence of Prasun Chatterjee. Chatterjee, who worked as a data entry operator at the National Medical College Hospital, has been closely associated with Dr. Sandeep Ghosh and is suspected of playing a key role in facilitating financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital.

The search operation, which lasted for several hours, resulted in the discovery of incriminating documents and evidence that allegedly tied Chatterjee to the corruption scheme. Following the search, the ED arrested Prasun Chatterjee. Before being taken away by central forces, Chatterjee, when questioned by journalists, stated, “I have told everything that needed to be known,” but refrained from commenting on the extent of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh’s involvement in the financial corruption at RG Kar Hospital.

As Chatterjee was escorted into the ED vehicle, a crowd of neighbors and locals gathered, shouting slogans demanding justice. The “We Want Justice” chants underscored the public outrage surrounding the case, which has seen multiple high-profile figures entangled in allegations of widespread corruption. The arrest of Chatterjee, a relatively low-profile yet pivotal figure, has added another layer of complexity to an already high-stakes investigation.

The ED’s investigation into the RG Kar corruption case has revealed an extensive network of hidden assets and properties allegedly owned by Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. During Friday’s operation, the ED conducted simultaneous searches at at least nine locations, including Ghosh’s personal residence, his in-laws’ house, his sister-in-law’s residence, and properties belonging to his associates in Howrah, such as businessmen Kaushik Kole and Biplab Singhar.

Among the properties unearthed by the ED were a massive resort in Sonarpur and a luxurious garden house in Canning, both of which are believed to be owned by Dr. Ghosh. These properties, reportedly worth crores, are now under the ED’s scrutiny as they attempt to trace the flow of money and uncover the full extent of the financial misconduct.

Prasun Chatterjee’s role in the RG Kar corruption scandal appears to have been multifaceted. According to ED sources, Chatterjee was deeply involved in managing financial transactions and might have acted as a conduit for siphoning off funds. His position as a self-proclaimed PA to Dr. Ghosh gave him access to sensitive information and operational control, which investigators believe he exploited to further the corruption scheme.

The arrest has also raised questions about Chatterjee’s presence at RG Kar Hospital’s seminar hall on a critical day related to the corruption investigation. While details remain unclear, it is suspected that Chatterjee may have been involved in attempts to manipulate or cover up evidence. Sources also reveal that Chatterjee allegedly played a role in attempting to bribe the victim’s family to suppress information related to the case, a claim that has further complicated the investigation.
Adding to the ongoing investigation, CBI officials visited the home of the victim’s parents on Friday to discuss these developments. The parents had previously alleged that DC Central had offered them money to cover up the case, a claim that has raised eyebrows and added another dimension to the already controversial investigation. The CBI is now closely examining these allegations and gathering further evidence to corroborate the claims.

The arrest of Prasun Chatterjee marks a significant turning point in the RG Kar corruption case as the ED continues to unravel a complex web of deceit, corruption, and potential money laundering. With Chatterjee now in custody, the ED is expected to intensify its probe into Dr. Sandeep Ghosh’s financial dealings and connections. The investigation could potentially lead to more arrests and uncover additional hidden assets linked to the scandal.

As the case unfolds, both the ED and CBI are under immense pressure to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore public confidence in the state’s healthcare administration. The investigation into the RG Kar Medical College corruption case continues to be one of the most closely watched legal dramas in recent times, with the public eagerly awaiting further revelations and accountability from those involved.

ED Raids House of RG Kar Principal Sandeep Ghosh’s Father-in-Law Amid Ongoing Corruption Investigation

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 6, 2024, Hooghly: The usually quiet neighborhood of Padripara in Ward No. 16 under the Hooghly Chandannagar Municipal Corporation was shaken on Friday morning when a team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), accompanied by central forces, arrived to conduct a raid. The target of their search was the residence of the father-in-law of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was recently arrested by the CBI in connection with a high-profile corruption case.

The unexpected arrival of the ED and central forces caused a wave of speculation and curiosity among the local residents, who were left wondering about the nature of the raid. The news quickly spread throughout the neighborhood, drawing a crowd of onlookers trying to grasp the situation.

The ED team, upon reaching the residence, was reportedly met with a surprising discovery. The house of Dr. Ghosh’s father-in-law had been locked and unoccupied for a long time, leaving the ED officials without access to the property. Neighbors informed the ED team that the house had been closed for five to six years, with no recent activity or visitors. As a result, the officials left the location without carrying out any further investigation at the site.

Speaking to the media, a local resident said, “This house has been shut for years. We haven’t seen anyone coming or going for a long time. Because the house was closed, the ED couldn’t find anything or conduct their search properly.” The ED team, seemingly unprepared for the unoccupied state of the house, concluded their raid and departed, leaving behind more questions than answers.

The raid comes in the wake of the ongoing investigation into the financial corruption scandal at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where Dr. Sandeep Ghosh is alleged to have been involved in large-scale financial misconduct during his tenure as principal. The Calcutta High Court had previously ordered a CBI investigation into the corruption allegations, leading to Dr. Ghosh’s arrest. Following this, the ED also launched its probe, focusing on potential money laundering angles related to the case.

The raid at Dr. Ghosh’s father-in-law’s house suggests that the ED is expanding its investigation to explore any possible links or transactions that could be connected to the corruption case. The ED typically conducts such raids to uncover evidence of illicit financial activities, including hidden assets, unexplained wealth, or records of transactions that could substantiate allegations of corruption and money laundering.

While the raid did not yield immediate results due to the house being vacant, it underscores the seriousness with which the central agencies are pursuing the RG Kar corruption case. The involvement of both the CBI and ED highlights the complexity of the investigation, with authorities likely probing multiple leads to build a comprehensive case.

The ED’s action also indicates that family members and associates of those directly accused, such as Dr. Ghosh, could also be under scrutiny as investigators look into all possible avenues of financial misconduct. The fact that the ED went ahead with the raid despite the house being uninhabited for years may suggest that they are following a specific lead or tip-off that connects the property to the ongoing investigation.

The raid has sparked a range of reactions from the local residents and those following the case closely. While the immediate outcome of the raid was inconclusive, the mere presence of ED and central forces in a residential area is enough to generate a buzz and heighten the sense of anticipation surrounding the case.

Meanwhile, officials from the ED have remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the raid and the broader scope of their investigation. However, sources indicate that more such actions could be on the horizon as the agency continues to follow the money trail and uncover the depth of the corruption scandal at RG Kar Medical College.

As the investigations by both the CBI and ED progress, it is expected that further raids and actions will be carried out to bring to light the full extent of the financial irregularities and to hold those responsible accountable. The unfolding situation continues to be a closely watched development, both for its legal implications and for the impact it may have on the state’s medical and administrative landscape.

ED raids houses of ex-principal of RG Kar hospital, aides over financial irregularities

MP, 6 September 2024, Kolkata: Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers on Friday conducted simultaneous search operations at the residences of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and three of his associates in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the institute, an officer said.

The raids were carried out at Ghosh’s residence in Beliaghata and at two locations in Howrah and Subhasgram.
All the four are already in CBI custody. “We reached these places around 6.15 am and started our raids,” the officer said.
The ED has filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Ghosh, which is analogous to a First Information Report (FIR) in criminal cases.
On August 23, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation into the alleged financial irregularities at state-run hospital from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI.
This decision followed a petition by Dr. Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of the facility, who sought an investigation by the ED into multiple allegations of financial misconduct during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.
Ghosh served as principal from February 2021 to September 2023. He was briefly transferred from RG Kar in October 2023 but was reinstated within a month. Dr. Ali had raised concerns that the corruption at RG Kar hospital might be linked to the doctor’s death, suggesting that the victim was aware of the misconduct and might have threatened to expose it.

CBI Questions Female Assistant Superintendent in RG Kar Hospital Case: Suspicious Behavior Under Scrutiny

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, August 31, 2024, Kolkata : The female Assistant Superintendent of RG Kar Hospital is now under intense scrutiny by the CBI in connection with the rape and murder case involving a young doctor at the hospital. The CBI has begun questioning her regarding the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death.

The investigation follows a complaint from the doctor Tilottama’s parents, who allege that the Assistant Superintendent first contacted them regarding their daughter’s illness and later informed them of her suicide. This has led to heightened scrutiny of the Assistant Superintendent’s actions.

In a recent hearing, the Supreme Court raised questions about this official’s conduct. Justice Pardiwala queried state lawyer Kapil Sibal about the Assistant Superintendent’s identity, asking, “Who is this Assistant Superintendent? Is he a woman or a man?” When Sibal confirmed that the official is indeed a woman, Justice Pardiwala expressed concern over her suspicious behavior, questioning, “What is the reason behind her behavior?”

Adding to the controversy, three audio recordings have surfaced, showing conversations between the Assistant Superintendent and the young doctor’s father. In the first call, the Assistant Superintendent reportedly instructed the father to come to the hospital quickly due to the daughter’s illness. In a subsequent call, she informed him of the suicide and death, urging him to arrive as soon as possible.

The Assistant Superintendent, currently under CBI interrogation, claims that her statements about the suicide were made under significant stress and amidst the presence of numerous students and officials after the doctor’s body was recovered. This defense is part of her ongoing explanation to the CBI.

Debate Intensifies Over Arjikar Case as Questions Arise About Police Handling and FIR Timing

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, August 31, 2024, Kolkata : The investigation into the RG Kar Hospital case, involving the tragic death of a female doctor, has ignited a fresh wave of debate as new, potentially explosive information emerges. The case, which has already attracted significant judicial scrutiny, is now facing intense scrutiny over the handling of the FIR and the procedural actions of the police.

Delayed FIR Sparks Legal and Public Outcry

The Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court have both previously expressed concerns over the delayed registration of the FIR. The incident in question unfolded on August 9, when the police arrived at RG Kar Hospital by 10 a.m. to investigate the death of the female doctor. Despite their prompt arrival, the FIR was not lodged until 11:45 p.m. on the same day—well after the body had been recovered and examined.

The FIR, filed at Tala police station under FIR No. 52, accuses an unidentified individual of intentional rape and murder. This delay in FIR registration has become a focal point of contention, with critics questioning the effectiveness and transparency of the investigative process.

FIR Content and Discrepancies

The FIR was initially recorded based on General Diary No. 577, with the formal complaint being filed around 12:15 p.m. on August 9. The FIR references Unnatural Death Case No. 861, citing Sections 64 (rape) and 103 (1) (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. However, the post-mortem report, which is crucial to establishing the cause of death and the nature of any assault, did not directly confirm rape. This discrepancy has led to widespread questioning of the police’s decision to include allegations of rape and murder in the FIR without concrete forensic evidence.

Family’s Outcry and Demands for Justice

The victim’s family has publicly expressed their frustration and dismay over the handling of the case. They have alleged that their daughter was subjected to severe torture and ultimately murdered, and are demanding exemplary punishment for those responsible. Their concern is compounded by the apparent mismatch between the FIR’s allegations and the post-mortem findings, which they argue undermines the integrity of the investigation.

Criticism from the Medical Community

An agitating doctor involved in the case has voiced strong criticism of the police’s actions, particularly the decision to file an FIR based on assumptions of criminal activity rather than on substantiated evidence. The lack of direct evidence of rape has further fueled skepticism about the thoroughness and objectivity of the investigation.

Ongoing Controversy and Investigation

As the investigation continues, the controversy surrounding the FIR timing and content remains unresolved. The case has raised critical concerns about procedural integrity and the administration of justice, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in high-profile investigations. The legal and public discourse surrounding the Arjikar case underscores the broader issues of procedural justice and the need for rigorous investigative standards.

DNA Report Confirms Sanjay Roy as Rapist in High-Profile RG Kar Case; CBI Faces Pressure to Uncover More Complexities

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, August 31, 2024, Kolkata: In a dramatic turn of events, the highly publicized RG Kar rape and murder case has taken a significant step forward with the release of a damning DNA report by the Central Forensic Science Lab (CFSL). The report conclusively identifies Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, as the rapist of the female doctor, setting the stage for a potential landmark judgment.

Forensic Evidence Points Decisively at Sanjay Roy
The CFSL report, awaited for months, has confirmed that Sanjay Roy’s DNA matches the semen samples found on the body of the murdered doctor. This finding is critical, as it not only ties Roy directly to the crime but also strengthens the case against him amidst growing calls for justice from the public and the medical community. The DNA evidence was gathered from various sources, including samples collected from the victim’s body during the post-mortem, Sanjay Roy’s clothing from the night of the incident, bed sheets from the seminar room, a red blanket, and hair samples seized from the crime scene.

CBI Investigation Intensifies Amidst Public Outcry
With the forensic evidence squarely pointing to Sanjay Roy, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now intensified its probe into the RG Kar case. Despite the clarity provided by the DNA report, the investigation is far from over. Public sentiment has been highly charged, with significant pressure on the CBI to delve deeper and unravel any potential hidden layers to this heinous crime.

Rumors and speculations have been circulating widely, with some doctors and members of the public suggesting the possibility of a gang rape. The outrage has been palpable, with demands for a more thorough investigation to ensure that all culprits are brought to justice. “The DNA evidence is a step forward, but it might just be the tip of the iceberg. There could be more involved,” said a senior doctor from RG Kar Medical College who wished to remain anonymous.

CBI Faces Pressure to Provide Admissible Evidence and Clarity
The CFSL’s findings provide the CBI with a solid foundation to proceed, but the road ahead is fraught with complexities. The investigative agency must now piece together the remaining evidence and testimonies to build a compelling case that can withstand scrutiny in court. In cases involving such intense public interest, the need for concrete, admissible evidence is crucial to prevent any loopholes that could lead to the accused walking free.

The CFSL report hints that there could be more angles to explore, suggesting that Sanjay Roy’s actions may be only a part of the larger narrative. The CBI’s next steps are critical, as any missteps could lead to further public distrust and backlash. Legal experts have pointed out that while DNA evidence is powerful, a comprehensive investigation is essential to corroborate it with circumstantial evidence, witness testimonies, and other forensic findings to ensure a watertight case.

A Community on Edge: Calls for Justice and Accountability
The RG Kar case has gripped the city of Kolkata and drawn national attention, becoming a flashpoint for discussions on women’s safety, the accountability of civic volunteers, and the efficacy of law enforcement. Public demonstrations have erupted across the city, with activists, medical professionals, and concerned citizens demanding swift justice and more stringent measures to protect women. The case has also raised questions about the accountability of civic volunteers like Sanjay Roy and the systems in place to prevent such crimes.

Many in the community feel that this case represents more than just one tragic incident; it symbolizes a larger systemic failure that needs urgent redressal. “We need more than just one man being held accountable. We need to ensure this never happens again,” said a protestor at a recent rally.

What Lies Ahead?
As the CBI navigates through the complexities of this case, the spotlight remains on the need for transparency and thoroughness. The public, the media, and legal observers are all watching closely as the investigation unfolds. The CFSL report has provided a pivotal breakthrough, but it has also raised more questions about what really happened that fateful night at RG Kar Medical College.

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, August 30, 2024, Jalpaiguri: In a fresh controversy involving civic volunteers, a “retired” civic volunteer, Kishore Roy, and his associate were arrested by the Jalpaiguri Kotwali police station on charges of drug possession. The incident has once again brought civic volunteers under the spotlight, raising concerns about the conduct and accountability of those associated with law enforcement.

The incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon near the Teesta River in Balapara, a locality close to Jalpaiguri city. Locals noticed two suspicious-looking youths on the riverbank and began questioning them. During the interrogation by locals, one of the young men, later identified as Kishore Roy, claimed to be a civic volunteer. Sensing something amiss, the locals promptly informed the Jalpaiguri Kotwali police station.

Upon receiving the information, a team of police officers arrived at the scene and apprehended the two youths. A search of the duo led to the recovery of one and a half grams of brown sugar (a form of heroin) and 93 intoxicating tablets. Both Kishore Roy and his associate, identified as Sameer Mandal, were taken into custody.

During initial questioning at the police station, the arrested men claimed that the drugs were for their personal use to get intoxicated. However, the police were not convinced by their explanations and decided to formally arrest them after further interrogation. A case has been registered against the two under the Anti-Narcotics Act (NDPS Act). According to police sources, the two will be produced in Jalpaiguri court today, Friday, and are expected to be remanded in custody.

Jalpaiguri Superintendent of Police, Umesh Khandabahale, confirmed the arrests and provided additional details about the individuals involved. “Kishore Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer at Banarhat police station, was removed from his duties on August 16 due to several complaints against him,” said SP Khandabahale. “His past record of misconduct had already marked him as a problematic civic volunteer.”

The other arrested individual, Sameer Mandal, is a resident of the King Saheb Ghat area of Jalpaiguri town. The police are investigating if there is a larger network involved or if they were merely consumers of narcotics. Both have been charged under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for illegal possession of narcotics.

This is not the first time civic volunteers have been in the news for the wrong reasons. In recent years, there have been increasing reports of misconduct and criminal activities involving civic volunteers, who are recruited to assist the police force in maintaining law and order. Earlier, the names of civic volunteers were involved in several incidents, including the RG Kar case, which created a significant controversy. This time, the arrest of a former civic volunteer with drugs has created a sensation again, raising serious concerns about the vetting process, training, and oversight of civic volunteers.

Local residents have expressed their concerns about the safety and integrity of law enforcement services in their area. “It is shocking that someone who was supposed to assist the police was himself involved in such illegal activities,” said a local resident from Jalpaiguri. “The authorities need to thoroughly investigate and ensure that those assisting the police are trustworthy.”

In light of the incident, the Jalpaiguri police have promised stricter oversight and background checks for those involved in civic volunteer programs. “We are taking this incident very seriously,” said a senior police official. “We will ensure that such elements are weeded out from the system, and a thorough background check is conducted before allowing anyone to serve as a civic volunteer.”

The arrest of Kishore Roy and Sameer Mandal is a stark reminder of the need for stricter scrutiny and regulation within the civic volunteer program. As investigations continue, the police aim to uncover whether this was an isolated case or part of a more extensive network operating within the region.

The arrests have sparked debate about the role and accountability of civic volunteers within the police framework. Public confidence has been shaken, and there are calls for a comprehensive review of the civic volunteer system to prevent such incidents in the future.

Both Kishore Roy and Sameer Mandal have been remanded in judicial custody, and the case will be presented before the court today, Friday. As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains to be seen what further revelations might come to light.

Woman Arrested Red-Handed with Raw Spirit by NJP Police in Siliguri

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, August 30, 2024, Siliguri: In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor trade, a woman was arrested red-handed by plainclothes police officers from NJP police station while attempting to sell raw spirit near NJP Netaji More in Siliguri. The woman, identified as Geeta Shaivya, hailing from Naxalbari, was caught with approximately 37 liters of raw spirit, which she had allegedly smuggled from Panitanki, a town on the India-Nepal border.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police officers from NJP police station conducted a raid in the area adjacent to NJP Netaji More on Friday. The police arrested Geeta Shaivya on the spot and seized the illegal consignment. According to police sources, she has been involved in the illicit trade of raw spirit for quite some time and has been on their radar.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the raw spirit seized from her possession is often used in the production of fake liquor. Such illicitly made alcohol poses serious health risks to consumers and has been linked to numerous cases of poisoning and fatalities. “The sale of raw spirit is illegal, and its use to make counterfeit liquor is a major concern. We are committed to cracking down on this illegal trade,” said a senior police official from NJP police station.

Geeta Shaivya is believed to be part of a larger network engaged in smuggling raw spirit across the India-Nepal border. The area around Panitanki is notorious for cross-border smuggling activities, with raw spirit being one of the frequently trafficked goods due to its high demand among illicit liquor manufacturers.

The police are now investigating further to uncover the full extent of the illegal operation and identify other individuals involved. “We suspect that there are more people connected to this illegal trade. Further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and the end users,” added the official.

The accused, Geeta Shaivya, was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Friday, where she has been charged under relevant sections of the law pertaining to the illegal possession and transportation of raw spirit. The court has remanded her to police custody for further interrogation to extract more information about the network and her role in it.

The arrest highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in tackling the illicit liquor trade, which has far-reaching consequences for public health and safety. The NJP police have stepped up their vigilance in the region to prevent such illegal activities, especially with the upcoming festive season, which often sees a spike in the sale of illegal liquor.

Local residents have lauded the NJP police for their prompt action and expressed hope that such operations will continue to ensure that the streets are safe from the dangers of illegal liquor.

“We are grateful to the police for taking swift action. This arrest will send a strong message to those involved in illegal activities,” said a local resident.

The NJP police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information regarding illegal activities in their vicinity. The authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential, and their cooperation will help in creating a safer environment for all.
