CBI Unearths Potential Key Evidence in RG Kar Case as Investigation Intensifies

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, October 22, 2024, Kolkata : In a significant development in the RG Kar Hospital case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) believes it may have located crucial CCTV footage on a hard disk that could serve as a pivotal piece of evidence. This discovery adds a layer of complexity to an already high-profile investigation into the alleged conspiracy surrounding the rape and murder of a young doctor.

The CBI is concentrating on the contents of the hard disk prior to presenting a chargesheet against the officer in charge of the Tala police station and former hospital principal, Ghosh, both of whom are implicated in the ongoing conspiracy case. Following court approval, these hard disks have been dispatched to the Central Forensic Library for further analysis.

Concerns have been raised regarding the availability of complete CCTV footage from the Tala police station and RG Kar Hospital, leading to queries in the Supreme Court about the status of this vital evidence. The CBI has reported that it has yet to receive all necessary footage, and much of what has been provided appears to be incomplete. As part of its investigation, CBI officials have scrutinized computers from both the Tala police station and RG Kar Hospital, claiming that several relevant CCTV recordings may be housed on the hard disks.

According to CBI sources, the agency has already reviewed 51 CCTV clips from RG Kar Hospital before filing a chargesheet against Sanjay Roy, one of the accused. This footage highlighted the movements of civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, which are central to the agency’s allegations against him. However, the CBI admits that it lacks sufficient evidence regarding the purported data loss associated with the case.

In a parallel development, the CBI has successfully recovered deleted call records and video footage from the mobile phones of Tala police station OC Abhijit Mondal and former hospital principal Sandeep Ghosh. Investigators are actively searching for additional CCTV footage to align with these recovered call records and videos, as it is crucial for understanding the activities of both accused individuals.

Following the extraction of hard disks from four computers, the CBI filed an application with the Sealdah court to send the devices to the Central Forensics for examination. The court granted this request, allowing the investigation to proceed with renewed vigor.

As the CBI continues to piece together the evidence, the eyes of the nation remain focused on this sensitive case, underscoring the need for justice and accountability in the healthcare sector.
