Renovation of Language Memorial Pillar Underway in Serampore for International Mother Language Day Celebration

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 21, 2025, Serampore :  In anticipation of International Mother Language Day, the Bhashabagan in Serampore is undergoing significant renovation to meet the demands of the local community. Municipal Councilor Santosh Singh confirmed that the broken portion of the Language Memorial Pillar has been restored and repainted. Additionally, tiles have been laid in the surrounding garden, and CCTV cameras are being installed to enhance security for future events.

The Bhashabagan, located on the Ganga side of Raighat, has been a cultural hub since 2018, when the municipal authorities, under the guidance of the organization ‘A Mori Bangla Bhasha,’ erected the Language Memorial Pillar. A garden was also developed in front of the memorial, and the site has since hosted various events, including celebrations for International Mother Language Day.

Today, the area has been filled with the presence of educated and literature-loving locals, who have gathered in large numbers for the day’s festivities. The memorial pillar, topped with two hands holding the letter ‘A’, had suffered damage to one of the hands. Last year, the broken portion was temporarily patched up with thermocouple during the Language Day ceremony. This prompted the organization to formally request the municipality to address the issue. Secretary of ‘A Mori Bangla Bhasha,’ Sameer Saha, expressed satisfaction with the renovations, stating, “We are happy that the municipality has kept its promise.”

The renovation process has garnered praise from local residents, including Soumitra Dev, a young man who had posted on social media about the deteriorating condition of the memorial pillar. He shared his approval of the work being done, saying, “The renovation is going well, and I hope it will be properly maintained in the future.”

The ongoing restoration reflects the strong community commitment to preserving the significance of International Mother Language Day, fostering both cultural pride and respect for linguistic heritage.

Large Marijuana Haul Uncovered in Kolkata, Drug Dealer Arrested with 711.65 kg Seized

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 21, 2025, Kolkata :  A major breakthrough in a narcotics investigation took place today when the Operations Group of the CID, supported by officials from the Howrah Rural District Police, conducted a search operation at a warehouse adjacent to the residence of a suspected drug dealer in Kolkata. The search began with a sweep of the warehouse and two SUVs parked nearby, but initially yielded no significant findings.

However, after an extensive search, investigators discovered a suspicious gap in the floor tiles of the warehouse. Upon removing the tiles, they uncovered a hidden underground chamber. Inside the chamber, the detectives found 31 bags filled with ganja. The discovery led to the immediate arrest of the suspect, Sheikh Majed Ali, a resident of the Chakkashi area in the Bauria police station jurisdiction.

The police also seized three mobile phones from the suspect, adding further evidence to their case. The discovery of such a large quantity of illegal drugs sparked significant public interest, with a crowd quickly gathering in the vicinity of the search.

Following the arrest, CID officials revealed that an additional stash of marijuana was found hidden in the secret compartments under the seats of the two SUVs parked outside Majed’s residence. In total, the operation led to the confiscation of 711.65 kilograms of marijuana, estimated to be worth around one crore taka.

Majed Ali has been charged under the Narcotics Act by the Howrah Rural District Police at Bauria police station, as authorities continue their investigation into the scale of his drug trafficking operations.

The ‘Banglar Haat’ will feature handicrafts from four districts and GI-tagged items every fortnight, offering a platform for artisans to showcase their work. Kakdwip: A Blend of Mythology, History, and Economic Growth

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 20, 2025, Kolkata : Kakdwip, a bustling town situated on the banks of the Muriganga river in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, holds both historical and mythological significance. The town, known for its picturesque views and tranquil riverside charm, also boasts a rich cultural and historical heritage, making it an important landmark of the region.

According to an ancient mythological story, Kakdwip is named after the legendary Bhagirath, who is said to have passed through this area while guiding the holy Ganges to the sea. Legend has it that Bhagirath woke up one morning to the call of a crow and realized that he was very close to the sea. This moment, entwined with divine lore, marked the convergence of the Ganges and the sea, giving rise to the name Gangasagar. Following this, the river was named Bhagirathi in his honor.

Today, Kakdwip is a lively town, known for its diverse population, which is predominantly from the Medinipur caste. The local dialect, Kanthi Bangla, is widely spoken alongside Kolkata Bengali. The city is well-connected to Kolkata, Diamond Harbour, Namkhana, and Frasergunj through National Highway 117, with buses linking these key routes.

The region’s agricultural history is steeped in the struggles of the Tebhaga movement in the 1940s, when peasants protested against the oppressive sharecropping system. Under this system, landlords owned the land, while sharecroppers were forced to give away half of their produce. The suffering of the peasants, exacerbated by the 1942 cyclone and famine, led to the formation of the Kisan Samiti, which mobilized the farmers and called for the Tebhaga movement in 1946. The movement demanded that two-thirds of the crop be given to the farmers, significantly improving the situation for sharecroppers after years of exploitation. This struggle led to the eventual abolition of zamindari and the protection of farmers’ rights.

Kakdwip’s significance extends beyond its agricultural history. The city is also a vital transportation hub, with Kakdwip Railway Station serving as the main railway station. It is connected to the Sealdah-Namkhana line, allowing easy access to Kolkata. Waterways, too, play a crucial role in the transport system, with passenger and cargo ferries operating from the city’s LTC Ghat to Sagardwip.

The city’s economy is largely dependent on fishing. Kakdwip has a large fish market, and its fishing port, the Kakdwip Fisheries Port, is one of the most important fishing ports in India. With over 200 trawlers operating daily from the port, the fishing industry thrives here. Additionally, the presence of an ice mill supports this industry, ensuring the preservation of fish for market distribution.

Kakdwip has also gained prominence in tourism, thanks to its proximity to the Gangasagar pilgrimage site, a significant Hindu destination. Tourists flock to this region to bathe in the holy confluence of the Ganges and the sea. The beauty of the serene Ganges flowing into the sea, combined with the gentle waves of the ocean, attracts visitors each year. However, the growing number of tourists has resulted in a major environmental concern, as the shores of the Ganges are often littered with discarded clothes and garbage, especially after pilgrimages.

Despite these challenges, Kakdwip continues to be a vital part of West Bengal’s economy, blending rich cultural heritage with modern industries and tourism. Its mythological origins, historical significance, and economic activities contribute to the town’s unique identity.

Mamata Banerjee and Leader of Opposition Exchange Sharp Attacks in Assembly Amid Growing Tensions

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 20, 2025, Kolkata :  The West Bengal Assembly witnessed a heated confrontation between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Leader of the Opposition as both leaders launched direct attacks on each other, plunging the session into chaos.

The dispute began when Mamata Banerjee responded to accusations made by the opposition, questioning her alleged ties with terrorists. “After doing so much work, I have to hear that I have links with the terrorists of Jammu and Kashmir? Do I have links with the terrorists of Bangladesh? Without knowing it, I am being told that I am a terrorist,” Mamata said, expressing her frustration over the allegations.

Her comments sparked a strong reaction from Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs, who raised slogans in support of the Chief Minister. Mamata, in her defense, announced that she would be writing a letter to the Prime Minister to report the language used by the Leader of the Opposition. This move intensified the stir within the Assembly, adding fuel to the already tense atmosphere.

The Chief Minister further challenged the Leader of the Opposition, saying, “I will resign as Chief Minister if anyone can prove that I am a terrorist.” She also launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leaders, including Subhendu Adhikari, accusing them of exaggerating Hindutva ideals for political gain. “I am telling those who are mocking me about Hinduism, I am also the daughter of a Brahmin family,” she asserted, defending her Hindu identity.

Targeting the BJP once again, Mamata continued, “They call me Muslim League, but you take the help of the Muslim League to win elections. Should I expose that? You are doing so much slander in the name of religion, if one day they call for a movement, will you be able to handle it?”

The argument took a further turn when Mamata responded to recent incidents in Bengal regarding Saraswati Puja celebrations. While she claimed that Saraswati Puja was celebrated widely across the state in every home, school, club, and neighborhood, she acknowledged that two pujas had been held at Yogesh Chandra Chowdhury Day College and Yogesh Chandra Law College under court orders, a statement that raised questions and provoked further debate.

As the war of words escalated, the Assembly session was marked by heightened tensions and an apparent breakdown in communication between the ruling party and opposition. The episode reflects the deepening political divide in West Bengal as Mamata Banerjee continues to face growing criticism from opposition parties, particularly the BJP, in the lead-up to upcoming elections.

No Bird Flu Threat in Bengal, Poultry Traders Reassure Amid Scare

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 20, 2025, Kolkata :  As fears of a potential bird flu outbreak rise in neighboring Andhra Pradesh, the poultry industry in West Bengal is experiencing a significant drop in demand for chicken and eggs. Amid the panic, traders and experts are trying to allay fears, assuring that the situation in Bengal remains unaffected.

Reports from Andhra Pradesh indicate that a bird flu scare has led to a decline in chicken prices, with many traders in the region expressing concern over their livelihoods. In response to the outbreak, the state government of Andhra Pradesh has taken measures to import chicken and eggs from other states to maintain supply. The ripple effects of this scare are now being felt in nearby regions, with concerns about a similar impact in Bengal growing.

However, Ratan Poddar, the state joint secretary of the West Bengal Poultry Traders Association, sought to ease these concerns. Speaking from Barasat, Poddar reassured the people of Bengal that there is no bird flu in the state at present. He clarified that although the bird flu scare has affected several areas in Andhra Pradesh, it has not spread to West Bengal or its neighboring states, including Odisha, Assam, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh.

Poddar attributed the illness among birds to seasonal changes, noting that just like humans, birds can fall ill during this time, a condition often referred to as bird flu. However, he emphasized that there is no need for panic, as medical science has confirmed that cooking poultry at 65 degrees Celsius eliminates any harmful germs, making it safe to consume. Poddar recommended boiling the meat thoroughly as a precautionary measure, urging the people of Bengal not to worry unnecessarily.

As fears of a widespread outbreak continue to stir, Bengal’s poultry industry remains hopeful, with traders working hard to reassure the public that there is no immediate cause for alarm. The state’s poultry business, however, is keeping a close watch on developments in neighboring regions to mitigate any potential risks.

Controversy Erupts Over Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘Mrityukumbh’ Remark on Mahakumbh

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 20, 2025, Kolkata :  Tensions have risen following West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s controversial statement in the state assembly, where she referred to the ongoing Mahakumbh as ‘Mrityukumbh’ (Death Festival). This remark has sparked widespread protests, with accusations of disrespecting religious traditions and triggering heated debates about the state’s handling of the massive religious event.

According to official estimates, approximately 53 crore people were expected to bathe in the sacred Triveni Sangam as part of the Mahakumbh. As of now, about 50 crore pilgrims have already participated in the ritual, which has unfortunately been marred by numerous casualties. Despite the tragic loss of life, the Chief Minister’s remarks have intensified the controversy surrounding the event.

In the assembly, Mamata Banerjee expressed her anger at the ongoing disaster, denouncing the Mahakumbh in strong terms. Her use of the term ‘Mrityukumbh’ triggered an uproar, with opposition parties and religious groups immediately voicing their outrage. The situation escalated further on Tuesday when members of the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) gathered outside the assembly gate to protest against the Chief Minister’s statement. This led to a standoff with the police, who had to intervene to control the protestors. Approximately fifteen ABVP supporters were detained and taken to Lalbazar police station.

The protests have extended beyond student groups, with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also joining the criticism. He condemned Banerjee’s words, stating, “Insulting Sanatan Dharma has become Mamata Banerjee’s nature. Indian culture, which has flowed like the waters of the Ganges for thousands of years, should be respected by all. Those who attack our culture only harm themselves.” Many believe that the Chief Minister’s remarks were an attempt to appease Muslim communities, with some accusing her of repeatedly targeting Hindu religious practices.

As the protests continue to unfold, the debate over the handling of Mahakumbh and the Chief Minister’s controversial statement shows no signs of abating. The political and social ramifications of this dispute are expected to play out in the coming days, with various factions preparing to rally support for their respective positions.

Suvendu Adhikari Warns of Bangladesh Merging with Pakistan Amid Rising Religious Persecution

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, February 19, 2025 : In a recent address at the ‘Bangladesh in Crisis’ event, organized by the ‘Khola Hawa’ organization at the ABC Auditorium, Kolkata, Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, expressed serious concerns over the growing political and religious tensions in neighboring Bangladesh.

Adhikari pointed out the alarming rise of radical fundamentalist forces in Bangladesh, stating that the current political climate, shaped by the pro-Pakistan BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) and radical elements, could lead to severe consequences for both the country and the region. He went as far as to suggest that Bangladesh could merge with Pakistan within the next six months due to its increasing shift toward Pakistan’s influence.

At the heart of Adhikari’s remarks was the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. Drawing from his personal family history, Adhikari detailed how his mother, Mrs. Gayatri Bhattacharya, was forced to flee Bangladesh in 1959 due to religious discrimination. “My family, like many others, was compelled to leave their homeland simply because of their Hindu faith,” he said.

Adhikari’s address painted a grim picture of the situation for religious minorities in Bangladesh. He highlighted the dangers faced by Hindus, who are being targeted both for their religion and their political affiliations, particularly those linked to the ruling Awami League. He appealed to the Indian government to ensure that refugees fleeing such persecution are not treated harshly. “As an Indian citizen, I urge the Prime Minister to ensure that Hindus and others fleeing Bangladesh for their beliefs are not imprisoned,” he said.

In a wider context, Adhikari’s comments reflect growing concerns about the future of Bangladesh’s political landscape, which has seen a rise in radicalism. His warning about a potential merger with Pakistan underscores the shifting dynamics and the increasing estrangement from India, which could further destabilize the region.

As the situation in Bangladesh continues to evolve, the plight of religious minorities remains a critical issue that could affect relations between India and its neighboring country.

BJP Leader Bharati Ghosh Reacts Strongly After Name Appears in CBI Chargesheet

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 15, 2025, Kolkata :  BJP leader Bharati Ghosh has strongly refuted allegations after her name appeared in a CBI chargesheet related to recruitment corruption. Once a close confidante of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her tenure as Superintendent of Police in Paschim Medinipur, Bharati later joined the BJP. The CBI claims that she recommended a list of four individuals for employment, along with Trinamool Congress leaders Dibyendu Adhikari and Mamata Thakur.

In response to the allegations, Bharati Ghosh dismissed the claims as an attempt to tarnish her reputation, stating, “If my name has surfaced, call me, speak to me. I have always worked within the law, and I am not afraid of anyone.” She expressed frustration that her efforts to help individuals in need were now being scrutinized and misrepresented.

The CBI’s chargesheet has intensified political tensions, with the central agency highlighting the involvement of both BJP and Trinamool leaders in alleged recruitment malpractice. The investigation continues to unfold, with further developments expected as the case progresses.

Controversy Erupts in Bengal BJP Over Jagannath Chatterjee’s Facebook Post

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 15, 2025, Kolkata : A deep controversy has erupted within the Bengal BJP following a Facebook post by party member Jagannath Chatterjee. In his post, he highlighted recommendations made by various party leaders and workers for appointments to the School Service Commission, prominently featuring BJP leader Dibyendu Adhikari, brother of opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari. The revelation has triggered internal strife within the party, further escalating tensions among its members.

Chatterjee’s post also included the name of Bharati Ghosh, adding to the uproar. The disclosure led to widespread unrest in the Bengal BJP, and despite state general secretary’s efforts to diffuse the situation by deleting the post, the internal discord remains unresolved.

Political analysts suggest that this incident may be part of a larger strategy to undermine Subhendu Adhikari and diminish his family’s political influence. In response, Subhendu reacted strongly from Delhi, expressing his discontent over the matter. Following intervention from the central leadership, Jagannath Chatterjee ultimately removed the contentious post.

However, the controversy did not end there. Hindu Samhati president Shantanu Sinha reposted the content, claiming that the original post was intentionally directed at Subhendu. This has further fueled speculation within BJP circles about a growing trust deficit and factionalism within the party.

The situation remains volatile, with party insiders closely watching how the leadership navigates this internal conflict while maintaining political stability in the state.

Father Dies in Pandua Incident a Day Before Math Exam, Daughter Appears for Secondary Exams

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 13, 2025, Hooghly: In a tragic turn of events, a young girl in Hooghly displayed remarkable resilience as she sat for her secondary school mathematics examination just a day after losing her father. Muskan Khatun, a student of Pandua Hatni High School, left her father’s body at home to appear for her exam at Baichi Batika High School, determined to fulfill her late father’s dream of seeing her succeed academically.

Her father, Abdul Kayem, a farmer from Tarajal village, had always encouraged Muskan to pursue her studies and build an independent future. His sudden demise due to a heart attack on Friday came as a devastating blow. However, Muskan chose to honor his aspirations by focusing on her exam, even as preparations for his last rites took place simultaneously.

The news of her father’s passing reached Batika Baichi Panchayat Deputy Chief Diptendu Banerjee, who took immediate steps to ensure Muskan faced no difficulties during her examination. He arranged for necessary medical support, including an ambulance, in case she felt unwell at the exam center. Banerjee expressed his condolences and admiration for Muskan’s mental strength, stating, “It is heartbreaking that her father is not present for this crucial moment. She may face many hardships ahead, but for now, she remains determined to complete her exams.”

The incident has moved the local community, with many rallying behind Muskan to support her in this challenging time. Authorities and well-wishers hope she continues to demonstrate the same resilience in pursuing her dreams.

Authorities Focus on Bangladeshi Militant Links in Kolkata ATM Looting Incidents

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 14, 2025, Kolkata: A series of ATM fraud and looting incidents across Kolkata and its neighboring districts have raised serious concerns among law enforcement agencies. In multiple locations, ATMs have been targeted, with criminals breaking into machines, stealing cash, and, in some cases, setting fire to the vandalized units. The latest investigations have uncovered potential links to the Bangladeshi Hadith militant organization, which is suspected to have played a role in at least three coordinated incidents on the same day.

One of the primary incidents occurred in the Survey Park police station area near Jadavpur in Kolkata. Customers attempting to withdraw money from an ATM at a state-owned bank branch reported significant financial losses due to fraud. On Friday night, around 8:30 PM, customers at the State Bank of India ATM near Jadavpur Stadium experienced suspicious transaction failures. They claimed that while their accounts were debited, the cash did not dispense from the machine. A woman reportedly lost approximately one lakh rupees, while a man suffered a loss of twenty-five thousand rupees. A formal complaint was lodged at the Survey Park Police Station, prompting an immediate investigation.

In a separate but equally alarming incident in Howrah, a group of miscreants broke into an ATM in the Alampur area under the Sankrail Police Station, looted a substantial amount of money, and attempted to set the machine on fire. The situation came to light on Saturday morning when a customer, arriving to withdraw cash, discovered the vandalism and promptly alerted the locals. The Sankrail Police Station was notified, and an investigation was launched. Authorities are also examining whether a security guard was present at the ATM counter during the time of the attack.

Simultaneously, in the heart of Shantipur town in the Nadia district, criminals damaged an ATM at Dakghar Mor, breaking parts of the machine and exposing internal components. The incident caused alarm among bank authorities and the police administration, leading to heightened security concerns. The situation in Shantipur has remained tense since Saturday morning, with locals and officials closely monitoring developments.

These incidents have underscored a growing pattern of organized financial crimes, raising concerns about cross-border involvement. Police are intensifying their efforts to track down those responsible, with intelligence units working to establish definitive links to the suspected militant organization. The authorities have urged banks to reinforce security measures, install high-surveillance cameras, and ensure the presence of security personnel at ATM counters to prevent further occurrences.

Survey Shows Growing Trust in Mamata Banerjee, TMC Poised for Gains in Upcoming Elections

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 14, 2025, Kolkata : According to a recent survey by the India Today group, trust in West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is on the rise, with a significant portion of the population expressing a desire to see her become the country’s Prime Minister in the near future. The survey, which was conducted rigorously across the country, reveals that Banerjee’s popularity has surged, particularly among those who admire her leadership skills and administrative experience.

The survey also highlights a promising outlook for her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), in the upcoming national elections. The report suggests that if the Lok Sabha elections were held today, the TMC would increase its seat count in Bengal from 29 to 30, while the BJP would not gain a single seat, remaining stuck at 12. In contrast, both the Congress and the CPM are expected to face further setbacks, with their positions in the state continuing to deteriorate.

The survey, conducted in August 2024 among prominent politicians, showed that Mamata Banerjee’s popularity has nearly doubled by the 2025 survey. This growing support indicates that many people in Bengal, and perhaps beyond, believe she is the leader with the experience and political acumen needed to lead the nation.

With Trinamool Congress currently holding 30 seats in the Lok Sabha, it is seen as only a matter of time before the party secures a dominant position in Bengal once again. Looking ahead to the 2026 assembly elections, many political analysts predict that the TMC could achieve a two-thirds majority in the state legislature, further solidifying Mamata Banerjee’s political influence in Bengal and across the country.

In stark contrast, the BJP is reportedly on a downward trajectory, with its seat count in Bengal expected to decline in the coming years. The survey results suggest that the political landscape in the state may continue to shift in favor of Mamata Banerjee and the TMC as her influence and trust among the people grow.

Calcutta High Court Allows RSS Rally in Burdwan with condition, Rejects State’s Objection

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 14, 2025, Kolkata : In a significant legal development, the Calcutta High Court has overruled the West Bengal government’s objection and granted permission for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) rally to be held in Burdwan on February 16, 2025. The rally, which is expected to feature RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, had faced opposition from the Mamata Banerjee-led state government, but the court’s decision has paved the way for the event.

RSS had approached the court seeking permission after the state government refused to allow the rally. During the proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer, Debashis Chowdhury, argued that the event would take place in a small area within a large venue, far from any educational institutions or residential zones. He pointed out that the rally would run from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm and asserted that the claims regarding noise disturbance, especially concerning the use of microphones, were unfounded. The lawyer further argued that the event did not require state permission for this location, emphasizing the absence of any nearby schools or residential areas.

In response, Advocate General Kishore Dutta, representing the state, contended that there were three schools in the area, and the state had issued a notification banning the use of microphones or sound systems from three days before the secondary and higher secondary exams to prevent any disruption. This notification, issued in June of the previous year, was set to come into effect from February 12, 2025, and the government argued that the RSS had deliberately scheduled its program during this period.

After considering the arguments from both sides, the court ruled in favor of the RSS, allowing the rally to proceed on the scheduled date and time. However, the court issued a condition that the event must be conducted in a way that does not cause inconvenience to the exam candidates, stressing that the program should be carried out responsibly without any disturbance.

India and US Pledge to Double Trade by 2030 Following Modi-Trump Meeting

Baby Chakraborty, Delhi, February 14, 2025 : In a significant development during a three-day visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States, both leaders committed to doubling the trade between India and the US by 2030. The bilateral discussions, which took place amid a series of geopolitical and economic topics, have focused heavily on strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

Modi’s visit, while also drawing attention for his previous remarks on US President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration policies, has now been overshadowed by the trade and defense agreements announced. At a press conference following their meeting, the two leaders revealed that they had pledged a combined investment of $500 billion (approximately Rs 43,41,987 crore) in sectors such as energy, defense, and technology by 2030. The commitment aims to enhance collaboration between the two countries and increase their mutual economic growth.

Adding to the significance of this meeting, Prime Minister Modi echoed Trump’s famous campaign slogan with a new twist, saying, “Make India Great Again,” a sentiment similar to Trump’s own “Make America Great Again.” Both leaders have placed high hopes on the strengthened partnership.

One of the most notable developments from this meeting was the announcement that NASA and ISRO, India’s space agency, would collaborate on space research, highlighting growing cooperation in technological advancements. Moreover, President Trump confirmed that the US would be selling one of its most advanced fighter jets to India, reinforcing military ties between the nations amid growing regional tensions.

The discussion also touched on the ongoing trade disputes, with both parties agreeing to work together on resolving issues related to tariffs. Trump emphasized that America would continue to support India, assuring a united front on various global issues.

International analysts are optimistic about the potential positive impacts of this meeting for India’s future. However, as the world watches closely, the effectiveness of these agreements in the long term will remain to be seen.

The chilling discovery of his body hanging in the bathroom sent shockwaves through the hospital staff and cast a deep shadow of grief over his family.

Bapi Malik, a resident of Uluberia Birshibpur Rauta, had been battling severe breathing issues and was under medical care at the hospital. According to sources at the hospital, he had been seen heading towards the bathroom at approximately 3 p.m. on the day of the incident. The tragic incident has raised serious concerns regarding hospital security and patient supervision. While the exact circumstances leading to his death are still under investigation, Bapi’s family is left grappling with the loss. His mother, Aarti Malik, expressed her deep sorrow, suggesting that the immense physical pain her son endured could have led him to take such a drastic step.

She stated, “He was in a lot of pain. It seems he couldn’t bear it anymore. He was undergoing treatment, but the suffering became too much for him.”

West Bengal to Raise Rs 81,972 Crore Loan, Mamata Faces Criticism Over Rising Debt

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 13, 2025, Kolkata : The West Bengal government has announced plans to raise a new loan of Rs 81,972 crore from the market, as revealed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a press conference following the budget session on Wednesday afternoon. This announcement comes as part of the last full budget of the Mamata government before the 2026 assembly elections.

The state’s Minister of State for Finance, Chandrima Bhattacharya, presented the full budget in the assembly on the same day, followed by a press conference with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bhattacharya, and former Finance Minister Amit Mitra. In the conference, Mamata Banerjee discussed the state’s financial outlook and the necessity of taking this significant loan.

However, the announcement has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders, particularly CPI(M) State Secretary Mohammad Salim. Salim questioned the rationale behind the increasing debt, stating that the state’s loan has risen fourfold under the Trinamool Congress government. He expressed concern over where the money from this debt is going, and whether there are tangible benefits for the people of the state.

“What is happening with so much debt? Where is the money from this debt going? What are the obligations? Loans are being taken from the market at high interest rates to satisfy hobbies,” Salim remarked. He further criticized the government’s lack of focus on addressing unemployment, asking, “How many jobs have been created, how many employment plans are there? We don’t know the details.”

Salim also took aim at the state’s housing scheme, sarcastically commenting on the ongoing discussions surrounding it, suggesting that the government’s priorities are misplaced. The opposition’s criticism highlights the growing concerns over West Bengal’s financial management as the state prepares for the upcoming elections.
