BJP Leader Arjun Singh Questioned by CID in Samabhai Bank Corruption Case; Claims Political Conspiracy

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, Nov 14, 2024 :  BJP leader and former MP Arjun Singh was questioned by officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for over four hours on Thursday at the CID’s Bhavani Bhavan office in Kolkata. Singh’s name has surfaced in connection with a financial corruption case involving Samabhai Bank, where an alleged embezzlement of ₹4 crore is being investigated. This was the first time Singh was questioned in the ongoing investigation.

According to the court’s instructions, Singh’s interrogation was limited to a four-hour duration, a condition that was enforced strictly by the CID. Following his release after the session, Singh dismissed the allegations, calling the investigation part of a larger political conspiracy against him.

Before entering the CID office, Singh appeared visibly shocked and confused, stating that he had not been given clear details about the nature of the investigation or the specific charges against him. He acknowledged that the investigation was linked to the corruption case involving Samabhai Bank but expressed surprise at being implicated in a scandal involving the alleged movement of large sums of money, which he claimed was beyond his control. “I have no role in deciding who gets the tender. This is all part of a conspiracy,” Singh told reporters before entering the CID office.

Singh’s legal team had previously approached the Calcutta High Court seeking protection from prolonged or unfair interrogation. The court ruled that Singh must cooperate with the CID investigation but set clear conditions: the interrogation should be scheduled in advance, and the duration should not exceed four hours. The court also ensured that Singh was informed beforehand regarding the time and date of questioning.

After completing his four-hour session with the CID, Singh remained composed and reiterated his stance that the case against him was politically motivated. His appearance in the case is part of an ongoing investigation into financial corruption at Samabhai Bank, with Singh being one of the many political figures under scrutiny.

As the investigation continues, Arjun Singh’s claims of political vendetta are expected to add a layer of complexity to the case. The CID, however, remains tight-lipped about the details of the inquiry. The next steps in the case will likely involve further questioning and examination of financial records linked to the alleged corruption.

The investigation is part of the larger crackdown on financial irregularities in the region, and Singh’s high-profile involvement ensures that the case will continue to be a topic of intense political debate in the coming weeks.
