Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Calls for Peaceful Kali Puja Celebrations, Urges Vigilance Against Disturbances

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, October 29, 2024, Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took part in the inaugural festivities of several prominent Kali Puja celebrations in Kolkata on Monday, where she emphasized the importance of peace and communal harmony during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja celebrations. Addressing gatherings at the Girish Park Five Star Storing Club, Janbazar Combined Kalipuja Samiti, and Youth Friends Club Kalipuja, Banerjee delivered a strong message to deter any actions that could disrupt the festivities, urging everyone to celebrate responsibly.

“There should be no communal unrest, no controversies over betting, and no disturbances during Diwali,” she stated, stressing the need for collective vigilance to ensure a peaceful and joyous festival season. She underscored that law enforcement would be on high alert to maintain order, while also urging citizens to cooperate in keeping the celebrations safe.

The Chief Minister also voiced her concerns about gambling-related activities during the festivities, encouraging the use of “eco-friendly betting” methods and calling for restraint. “Celebrate in a way that brings happiness without causing harm to others,” Banerjee advised, emphasizing that the festivities should not endanger anyone.

In a pointed remark, without directly mentioning the opposition, Banerjee criticized attempts to “defame Bengal” and urged detractors to view the state as their own. “Bengal has always led by example, and no one can do what Bengal can,” she affirmed, urging both puja organizers and the broader community to take ownership in ensuring peace.

As a final call to action, Banerjee reminded puja clubs, local communities, and every resident to work alongside the administration to maintain harmony. “The administration will be vigilant, but society must also play its part,” she concluded, stressing the shared responsibility to uphold safety and unity throughout the celebrations.
