The group, led by Manikchak MLA Savitri Mitra, made the official switch during a ceremony today, where Mitra handed over the Trinamool Congress flag to the new members.
The defectors cited a lack of opportunities and recognition within the Congress party as the primary reasons for their decision to join the Trinamool Congress. “We are not getting the status or the chance to serve the people as we should have been in the Congress. After seeing the remarkable development under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, we have decided to join the Trinamool Congress,” said the group of former Congress workers.
Manikchak MLA Savitri Mitra, who has been an active advocate for Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, welcomed the new members and praised their decision to align with the ruling party. “Today, over 100 Congress workers, including leaders, joined the Trinamool Congress, inspired by the development work of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,” Mitra stated, highlighting the growing support for the Trinamool Congress in the region.
This defection marks a further shift in political allegiances, underlining the ongoing challenges facing the Congress party in Bengal.
