Parents of RG Kar Murder Victim Seek Justice at West Bengal Assembly, Express Distrust in State Government

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, November 26, 2024, Kolkata: The investigation into the horrific rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital continues at a glacial pace, prompting growing frustration from all corners. Tilottama’s parents, the grieving family at the center of the tragedy, have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the state’s handling of the case, which they claim is being undermined by political interference and lack of accountability.

Today, Tilottama’s parents, accompanied by Sajal Ghosh, made a dramatic visit to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to meet with Leader of the Opposition, Shuvendu Adhikari. The family reiterated their distrust in the state government, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of attempting to cover up the crime by scapegoating a civic volunteer involved in the case. They contended that the investigation has been deliberately stalled, leaving them with no choice but to seek justice through political avenues.

This move comes shortly after the family’s previous encounter with Leader of the Opposition, Shuvendu Adhikari, on the occasion of Bhaiphonta, when he had visited the victim’s family home in Sodepur to express solidarity. On this occasion, the parents of the victim made it clear that their actions were not politically motivated, but driven by a desperate need for justice for their daughter.

Around noon today, Sajal Ghosh arrived with the victim’s parents at the Assembly’s main gate, only to be redirected by security personnel to the Town Hall entrance. Undeterred, the family entered through the alternative route and proceeded directly to Adhikari’s office, where the victim’s father publicly demanded justice for his daughter and called for continued action to ensure accountability.

In the meeting, the grieving father urged the Leader of the Opposition to support the ongoing movement for justice, emphasizing the need for unity in this fight. “It’s crucial to keep the movement alive, as it is our only hope of seeing justice served,” he said. Shuvendu Adhikari, in turn, assured the family of his full support, vowing that all BJP MLAs would remain actively engaged in demanding justice for the victim.

The family’s plea marks yet another chapter in the ongoing battle for justice in the RG Kar case, with growing concerns over the pace of the investigation and the perceived attempts at a cover-up. The victim’s parents have vowed to continue their fight, undeterred by political affiliations, in the hope that their voices will eventually be heard.
