Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, October 29, 2024, Kolkata: Sukant Majumdar, India’s Minister of State for Education, will represent India on the global stage at the G20 Education Ministers’ Conference in Brazil on October 30. Following in the footsteps of former President Pranab Mukherjee, Majumdar’s participation marks a significant moment as he becomes the latest Bengali leader to present India’s educational advancements to an international audience. His presence at this high-profile event reflects India’s commitment to sharing its strides in inclusive and digital education with the world, and it’s an opportunity to establish India as a global leader in education.
The conference will consist of multiple sessions, each covering vital topics in contemporary education. Majumdar plans to present a comprehensive overview of initiatives implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration aimed at making education more accessible, inclusive, and relevant across different societal segments. Key among these topics are India’s efforts to expand adult education and foster community involvement in education, the role of digital technology in transforming learning experiences, and initiatives for senior citizens to access education resources.
India’s initiatives to increase enrollment in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields will also be highlighted, including the country’s unique challenge projects aimed at inspiring young minds toward these disciplines. “This is a wonderful opportunity to share India’s educational initiatives with the global community, while learning from others,” Majumdar noted. The conference will enable India to showcase the strides made in digital education, which include providing digital learning tools to rural and underserved communities, thus bridging the education gap across demographics.
Majumdar’s agenda also includes bilateral meetings with education ministers from Brazil, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia. These discussions will focus on mutual learning opportunities and avenues for collaboration, particularly in welcoming foreign universities to establish campuses in India, in line with UGC guidelines. By inviting international universities to set up in India, the government envisions India evolving into a global “Education Hub,” offering high-quality educational resources to students worldwide.
“We will be extending an invitation to international institutions, assuring them of India’s readiness and regulatory framework to facilitate global education partnerships,” Majumdar stated. “Our vision is to establish India as a center for educational excellence, open to students and scholars globally.”
As the G20 summit provides a global platform for nations to exchange insights on educational challenges and achievements, Majumdar’s representation reinforces India’s dedication to fostering global education partnerships, bridging knowledge gaps, and ensuring that India’s educational policies align with international standards. His presence signals a proactive step toward building India’s reputation as a world leader in education and exemplifies the nation’s commitment to progress and inclusivity in the educational sphere.
