This decision follows her earlier expression of intent to step down as president of the Panshkura city Trinamool Congress a few months ago.
Sources indicate that Sumana formally submitted her resignation letter to the party’s state president, Subrata Bakshi, and All India General Secretary, Abhishek Bandyopadhyay. Additionally, she informed the district president of her resignation via telephone yesterday.
Historically, Soumen Mahapatra was a prominent Trinamool leader in Dapute, East Medinipur district. He ascended to the role of district president after Shuvendu Adhikari’s departure from the party. However, in a surprising turn of events, he was removed from his ministerial role and the district presidency, leading to speculation that his removal was linked to plans for him to contest the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming elections. Instead, Devanshu Bhattacharya was nominated for that constituency, raising eyebrows about the party’s internal dynamics.
